1 | First, identify any measures that have changes. Make sure that you are aware of any changes to measures and their benchmarks. Check to see if any measures that you have reported for previously or plan to report for have been changed, whether the reporting mechanism has been changed, or if their benchmark or thresholds have changed. These are things that could have an effect on your MIPS scores.
2 | Next, connect with Reps from reporting registries. If you’re using any reporting registries, such as the IRIS Registry, communicate with your rep to make sure the measures that you wish to report are being tracked. You should inform them of any changes, especially if there are new measures you would like to start reporting.
3 | Third, maintain and keep active, supporting documentation. Gather all pertinent documentation that supports your numbers throughout the year. This could be, for example, for your improvement activities. In this instance, you should keep a record for each improvement activity that you wish to report, or at least 50% of the providers that you wish to report for. Make sure this information is being tracked while you are in that reporting period versus after the fact. Certain documentation should be timestamped accordingly. Maintaining your documentation throughout the year also helps to prepare the practice for a potential audit.
